When purchasing a home, the backyard becomes an extension of your living space – it’s a respite where you can create a proverbial oasis to entertain, relax, or just be. But when that oasis starts to look like an actual oasis found in the Amazon jungle, it could be time for an overhaul. Case in point: a recent project that brought Maryland Curbscape to a townhouse in the Annapolis area.
The first area of concern was the brick paver patio already in place. Prone to numerous problems and maintenance issues, brick pavers can incur nuisances such as:
- Sinkage in certain areas due to movement or settling over time or drainage issues;
- Drainage issues (as mentioned above) such as pooling or flow issues causing erosion or potential damage to your home;
- Weed growth in joints; or
- Brick separation or loose bricks that can become safety hazards
Demonstrating one of these intrinsic issues, the patio space touted one of the bullet points listed above – weeds growing in joints – and was showing traits of being underutilized and neglected with overgrowth.
The homeowners did their due diligence, requesting and reviewing bids from several local contractors, and, after weighing their decisions, called us to perform the work. A beautiful slate design was selected and then colored to complement the outdoor patio space. As with all our jobs, we work to provide our clients with a wide variety of choices, and our concrete can be imaged after:

- Cobblestone, just to name a few
We also provide the appropriate texturing, edging, and border details as needed. Our colors are long-lasting and fade-resistant and can be one-of-a-kind or chosen to match a color scheme already in place. Common favorites include buff, beige, grey, and cream colors.
This project was completed in two days and we designed it such that it coordinated well with the flow of the existing second-floor deck and adjoining staircase located above. The best part? After our visit, the area will require very little maintenance and upkeep and can be enjoyed for years to come. It is always a pleasure to leave a home or commercial space in better repair than when we first arrive, and we were pleased with the outcome for these clients.
